Cable exercise

Cable Front Raise form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

The cable front raise is an isolation exercise in which a low-pulley handle is lifted forward to shoulder height, targeting the anterior deltoid with support from the upper chest. Lifters use the cable version over dumbbells when they want constant tension across the entire arc, including the bottom position where free weights provide little resistance, making it an efficient hypertrophy tool for the front delts.

How to do Cable Front Raise

  1. 1Set a pulley to its lowest position, attach a single handle, and stand facing away from the stack with the cable running between or beside your legs.
  2. 2Hold the handle in front of your thigh with a slight bend in your elbow, chest up and core braced.
  3. 3Exhale as you raise the handle forward and up to shoulder height, keeping your arm on a fixed slight bend.
  4. 4Do not lean back or swing your hips to help the weight up.
  5. 5Inhale as you lower the handle under control back to your thigh, resisting the cable's pull, then repeat or switch arms.
