Arm Circles form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

Arm circles are a dynamic warm-up drill in which the arms sweep through continuous circles from the shoulder joint, activating the deltoids, rotator cuff, and scapular muscles. Lifters use them at the start of upper-body sessions to raise shoulder temperature, lubricate the joint through a full range of motion, and prepare the cuff for pressing, pulling, and overhead work without any equipment.

How to do Arm Circles

  1. 1Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart and extend both arms straight out to your sides at shoulder height.
  2. 2Brace your core lightly and keep your shoulders down away from your ears.
  3. 3Begin making small forward circles with both arms, breathing steadily as you move.
  4. 4Gradually enlarge the circles over 15 to 20 seconds until your arms sweep near their full range, without shrugging or arching your back.
  5. 5Reverse direction and repeat the small-to-large progression backward for the same duration, keeping the motion smooth throughout.
