Dumbbell exercise

Front Raise (Dumbbell) form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

The dumbbell front raise is an isolation exercise in which dumbbells are lifted straight out in front of the body to shoulder height, targeting the anterior deltoid with assistance from the upper chest. Lifters use it to add direct front-delt volume when pressing alone leaves the shoulders lagging, and its light-load, strict style suits hypertrophy work and controlled early-stage shoulder strengthening.

How to do Front Raise (Dumbbell)

  1. 1Stand with feet hip-width apart holding a dumbbell in each hand resting against the front of your thighs, palms facing you.
  2. 2Brace your core, soften your knees, and set your shoulders back and down.
  3. 3Exhale as you raise one or both dumbbells straight forward to shoulder height, keeping a slight bend in the elbows.
  4. 4Avoid leaning back, shrugging, or swinging the weights up with momentum.
  5. 5Inhale as you lower the dumbbells slowly back to your thighs, taking about two seconds on the descent before the next rep.
