Typewriter Push-up form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

The typewriter push-up is an advanced variation in which the body stays low while sliding horizontally from one hand to the other, keeping continuous tension on the pectoralis major, anterior deltoids, and triceps of each side in turn. Calisthenics athletes use it to build unilateral pressing strength and chest control in the stretched bottom position, bridging the gap between archer and one-arm push-ups.

How to do Typewriter Push-up

  1. 1Set up in a push-up position with your hands much wider than shoulder width and your body in a rigid line.
  2. 2Inhale as you lower your chest toward one hand, letting that elbow bend fully while the other arm straightens.
  3. 3Staying low, shift your torso horizontally across to the other hand without rising up.
  4. 4Exhale as you press up from the second side, then reverse the slide on the next rep.
  5. 5Avoid letting your hips pike or sag during the transfer; keep your chest just above the floor throughout the slide.
