Incline Push-up form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

The incline push-up is a push-up performed with the hands elevated on a bench, box, or bar, which reduces the percentage of body weight lifted and targets the pectoralis major, triceps, and front deltoids at a lower intensity. It is used as a scalable entry point for building pressing strength, letting beginners progress from higher to lower surfaces on the way to floor push-ups.

How to do Incline Push-up

  1. 1Place your hands slightly wider than shoulder width on a sturdy bench or bar and walk your feet back until your body is straight.
  2. 2Brace your core and squeeze your glutes so your hips neither sag nor pike.
  3. 3Inhale as you lower your chest to the edge of the surface with your elbows about forty-five degrees from your body.
  4. 4Exhale as you press back to full arm extension, keeping your body in one rigid line.
  5. 5Avoid letting your head jut forward toward the surface; when full sets feel easy, move to a lower incline to progress.
