Jump Rope form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

Jump rope is a timed conditioning exercise of continuous low-amplitude hops over a turning rope, working the calves, ankles, shoulders, and cardiovascular system. Athletes use it to develop footwork, rhythm, and elastic lower-leg stiffness alongside aerobic fitness, and it remains a boxing staple because it trains coordination and conditioning at once with minimal equipment.

How to do Jump Rope

  1. 1Size the rope so the handles reach your armpits when you stand on its midpoint, and hold the handles at hip height.
  2. 2Turn the rope with small wrist circles rather than big arm swings, keeping your elbows close to your ribs.
  3. 3Jump just an inch or two off the floor, landing softly on the balls of your feet with knees slightly bent.
  4. 4Breathe steadily and keep a relaxed, upright posture; tension in the shoulders kills your rhythm.
  5. 5Work in continuous bouts or timed rounds, and if you trip, reset calmly and resume rather than rushing the rope.
