Weighted Bodyweight exercise

Weighted Chin-up form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

The weighted chin-up adds external load via a dip belt, weighted vest, or a dumbbell between the feet to the supinated-grip chin-up, training the lats, biceps, and mid-back against progressively heavier resistance. Lifters use it once bodyweight reps become easy, as the primary way to keep driving vertical pulling strength and upper-back mass through standard progressive overload.

How to do Weighted Chin-up

  1. 1Attach weight with a dip belt or vest, grip the bar with palms facing you at shoulder width, and settle into a still, full hang.
  2. 2Brace your core and pull your shoulder blades down before the arms bend.
  3. 3Exhale as you drive your elbows down and pull until your chin clears the bar.
  4. 4Avoid kipping, swinging the added load, or cutting the range short at either end.
  5. 5Inhale as you lower under full control to straight arms, letting the weight settle before beginning the next rep.
