Smith Machine Romanian Deadlift form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

The Smith machine Romanian deadlift is a hip-hinge performed with a guided bar, stretching and loading the hamstrings and glutes through a controlled range with minimal knee bend. Lifters use it to build posterior-chain size and hinge strength, and the fixed bar path helps beginners groove the hip-back pattern while letting experienced lifters keep constant tension on the hamstrings without balancing a free bar.

How to do Smith Machine Romanian Deadlift

  1. 1Set the bar just below hip height, grip it slightly wider than shoulder width, and stand tall with feet hip-width apart and a soft bend in your knees.
  2. 2Unrack the bar, inhale, and brace your core while setting your shoulders back.
  3. 3Push your hips straight back and slide the bar down your thighs, keeping your spine neutral, until you feel a strong stretch in your hamstrings around mid-shin.
  4. 4Avoid rounding your lower back or bending the knees further to gain depth.
  5. 5Exhale as you drive your hips forward to stand tall, squeezing your glutes at the top before the next rep.
