Kettlebell Romanian Deadlift form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

The kettlebell Romanian deadlift is a hip hinge performed with one or two kettlebells held in front of the thighs, lowering the load along the legs to lengthen the hamstrings and glutes under tension. Lifters use it to build posterior-chain strength and hamstring hypertrophy, and its compact load makes it a common tool for teaching hinge mechanics before progressing to the barbell version.

How to do Kettlebell Romanian Deadlift

  1. 1Stand with feet hip-width apart holding a kettlebell in each hand, or one kettlebell in both hands, resting against your thighs.
  2. 2Set your shoulders back, brace your core, and put a soft bend in your knees.
  3. 3Inhale as you push your hips backward, sliding the kettlebells down the front of your legs with a flat back.
  4. 4Lower until you feel a strong hamstring stretch, typically around mid-shin, without rounding your spine or bending the knees further.
  5. 5Exhale and drive your hips forward to stand tall, squeezing your glutes at the top of each rep.
