Cardio exercise

Hiking form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

Hiking is sustained walking over trails and varied terrain, working the glutes, quadriceps, calves, and stabilizing muscles of the hips and ankles while providing prolonged aerobic exercise. It is used to build endurance, leg strength, and mental recovery in one session, with inclines and a loaded pack turning an easy walk into demanding low-impact conditioning.

How to do Hiking

  1. 1Choose a trail suited to your fitness, wear supportive footwear, and carry water plus any needed layers.
  2. 2Start at an easy pace for the first ten minutes to warm up your legs and settle your breathing.
  3. 3On climbs, shorten your stride, lean slightly into the hill, and drive through your whole foot.
  4. 4Keep your breathing rhythmic; if you cannot speak a short sentence, slow down until you can.
  5. 5On descents, bend your knees slightly and take controlled steps to protect your knees, then finish the hike at a relaxed pace.
