Farmer Carry (Dumbbell) form, muscles worked, and workout tracking

The dumbbell farmer carry is a loaded walk performed with a heavy dumbbell in each hand, taxing the grip, forearms, traps, and core while the whole body works to stay tall under load. Lifters use it for grip strength, trunk stability, and work-capacity conditioning, since it delivers a cardiovascular and postural challenge with almost no technical barrier to entry.

How to do Farmer Carry (Dumbbell)

  1. 1Stand between two heavy dumbbells, hinge down with a flat back, and deadlift them to your sides.
  2. 2Pull your shoulders back and down, stand tall, and grip the handles hard.
  3. 3Walk with short, quick, controlled steps at a steady pace you can sustain for the full distance or time.
  4. 4Breathe rhythmically as you walk and keep your ribs stacked over your hips rather than leaning to one side.
  5. 5Do not let the dumbbells swing or your shoulders round forward as your grip fatigues.
  6. 6Finish by hinging down with a flat back to set the dumbbells on the floor under control.
